Joan Laporta

Joan Laporta Estruch (born on Barcelona, June 29, 1962) is a Spanish politician and former president of FC Barcelona, congressman of the Cataluña Parlament and Council of The Barcelona Town Hall. He has a law degree by the Barcelona University,

Laporta is an illustrious member of the Law Institute of Barcelona, as well as an MP in the Parliament of Catalonia. He has a Master in Corporate Law and Tax Experts at the Institute for Advanced Studies Abat Oliba de Barcelona; Diploma course in Corporate Law by Association of Lawyers of Barcelona.

Under his presidency, the club won several worldwide titles, such as the Spanish League of football in 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010; The king’s Cup in 2009; 3 times the Spanish Super Cup  in 2005, 2006 and 2009; in two times the League of Champions in 2006 and 2009; the Europe’s Super Cup in 2009, and the Club World Cup in 2009.

He went from being the least favorite candidate to the Barcelona FC’s presidency, to be the biggest adversary of the favorite Bassat. With only 41 years and 52.5% of the club partner’s votes, Joan Laporta turned out to be the youngest president in the history of Barcelona FC.

During his presidency, he committed himself to the social cause, eradicating the violence generated by the fans, making him a well-known person in Spain, nominated to the prize “Catalán of the year”.
